ff-the-Grid is a
term defining people who choose to disconnect from the utility
companies and live in a self-sufficient manner with their home capable of producing its own electricity, providing its own water
and taking care of its own septic/sewer. With the advent of Wifi its
even possible to completely disconnect from either land or cell
phones.
In many states and jurisdictions you can actually remain connected,
but instead of drawing power from the electric utility you can send
your excess power back into their grid and then they send YOU a
check every month for the power you gave them!
Going off-the-grid doesn't have to be a total immersion affair. It
is not only possible, but easy, to gradually work into the
off-the-grid lifestyle, adding additional components over time while
benefiting and saving money immediately from every component as you
add it.
Many states and jurisdictions give tax credits or other incentives
for people to install alternative energy systems or components such
as solar panels and wind generators as does the federal government
from time to time. A check with your state Department of Energy
regarding current tax credits and incentives may prove very
fruitful.
The April 12th 2006 edition of USA today reported that there were
“some 180,000 families living off-grid, a figure that has jumped 33%
a year for a decade.” Maybe you're one or about to become one.
Whether you are a newbie or already an off-gridder, we invite you to
invest some time visiting the auctions on our site where you'll find
almost everything you need to get started or enhance your
